20 September 2000 CrystalMaker version 4.1 is now shipping,
with free updates available to existing CrystalMaker 4.0 customers.
CrystalMaker 4.1 features a number of
new features which extend the program's multimedia capabilities
to the world of the internet.
Photo-realistic graphics can now
be saved in the cross-platform JPEG
format, making them immediately
available for sharing on other operating systems or the web.
JPEG is a high-quality, compressed graphics format. CrystalMaker
JPEG files are saved at a high-quality setting, with virtually
no visible deterioration in image quality - and require much
smaller file sizes than uncompressed PICT graphics (typically
saving around 60%).
Crystal structures can easily
be published online using CrystalMaker 4.1's new Export Web Page
feature. A text file, in HTML
format (the language of the web)
is automatically generated and, at the same time, a high-quality
JPEG image is created and linked to the HTML file. The two files
can then be posted on a web server for easy access over the world-wide web.
A new graphical
calculate centre
command makes it easy to identify possible cavity sites in complex
structures. Bond details are displayed on screen, and printed in the
output window.
CrystalMaker 4.1 includes a more
detailed List Bonds command,
identifying neighbouring atoms
and their coordinates, out to the specified maximum search distance.
Other changes include provision for
very-high resolution pixel graphics output, revised design for the
Polygon Tool, plus a number of bug fixes, interface tweaks and
subtle enhancements to the program code.
We are making a free
update available to
existing CrystalMaker 4.0 customers, via our web site. (This
is a compliance-checking update, requiring successful installation and
licensing of an earlier version of CrystalMaker 4 on your Mac.)
