To speed up mouse-driven rotation of the structure you can try:
- Changing model type. Ball-and-stick models are generally the slowest
to rotate, whilst Polyhedral and Wireframe models are the fastest.
- Changing rendering settings. Are you using depth-fading?
This always slows down rotations, because of the extra
rendering that needs to be done for individual atoms, bonds
or polyhedra. Ensure that depth fading is turned off.
- Turn off the surface overlay option (Model > Hide Surface).
- Ensure that the Fast Rotation mode is enabled
(Rendering > Fast Rotation Mode).
- Try reducing the colour depth. CrystalMaker works fastest
in 16-bit colour. Try using your Monitors System Preferences
panel to reduce the screen depth to 16-bit ("thousands") colour.
- Turn off perspective (it takes longer to render atom spheres
if perspective is turned on).
- Turn off the gradient fill background (this is slower to
redraw compared to a plain background)
