Workaround for Microsoft bug with Multiple Windows

There is a known problem under Windows XP Service Pack 2 in which the system will "leak" memory as windows are opened and closed. This generally affects CrystalMaker for Windows only when hundreds of windows have been opened, or hundreds of frames have been recorded in a QuickTime movie.

The symptoms of this problem may include CrystalMaker becoming increasingly sluggish as frames are recorded or windows opened, menus not appearing when clicked, windows refusing to open at all, or even an application crash.

Fortunately, there are two solutions to this problem. Either:

  1. You can switch from the default Windows XP theme, which uses 3-dimensional buttons and window frames, to the Windows Classic theme, which uses simpler buttons and frames.

To do this, open the Display control panel and select Windows Classic from the Theme menu. The leak problem does not occur in the Windows Classic theme; you may even find that your machine runs a little faster!

Or:
  1. If you prefer the Windows XP theme, you can download a patch from Microsoft. A description of the problem is also available.

Once you've downloaded the installer, run it, and rebooted, the problem should be fixed.
